The vast majority of
photographers I know—myself included—get a
substantial amount of business from referrals. The
problem? These can be awkward to request, even
when you know a client is an adoring fan. But, trust
me, the reward is so worth overcoming any sense of
awkwardness. (Especially because most clients are
glad to help!)
Here’s the process that I use to ask for referrals.
1. I send an email after the session is complete asking
for a referral.
2. I ask them to think of specific people that (example
someone that is pregnant or just had a baby) might be
in need of a photographer.
3. I let them know what is in it for them by reminding
them of our referral program.
Since starting this process, my referrals have gone up
and I no longer feel awkward asking!
